Jon Bon Jovi wings 'West'

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- New Jersey rocker Jon Bon Jovi has been tapped for a role on NBC's "The West Wing" that has more than a cowbell's ring of truth to it.

Bon Jovi -- playing himself -- will be seen throwing his support behind Jimmy Smits' fictional Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. Matt Santos, Daily Variety reports. Then he will sing the new Bon Jovi tune, "Welcome to Wherever You Are."

Bon Jovi's real-life politics are no secret. He was an avid supporter of Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., in his presidential bid.

The Bon Jovi episode of "The West Wing" is scheduled to air March 26.
