South by Southwest names film fest opener

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- The South by Southwest Film Conference & Festival in Austin, Texas, has chosen "A Prairie Home Companion" as its opening night film.

The March 10 showing will mark the North American premiere of the Robert Altman film written by Garrison Keillor, The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.

"I can't think of a more perfect opening-night film than 'A Prairie Home Companion'," festival producer Matt Dentler told The Reporter. "Not only do you have great masters like Robert Altman and Garrison Keillor involved, but it's also a celebration of entertainment and the creative spirit."

The movie is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters in June.
