'Cold Case' episode has Springsteen theme

NEW YORK, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- An episode of CBS' "Cold Case" has been written around eight songs by New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen.

The episode, "8 Years," airs Jan. 8 and tells the story of a slaying among high school friends, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

All of the songs Springsteen licensed to the show are from 1980s to early 1990s such as "No Surrender," "Drive All Night," "Stolen Car" and "Atlantic City."

Instead of picking songs to illustrate a story, the episode was written around the songs, executive producer and writer of the episode, Meredith Stiehm, told the Post.

"Because there are such vivid stories and characters in Bruce Springsteen's music, we decided to let the lyrics do a lot of the storytelling for us, instead of depending on dialogue," she said. "In this case, I chose the songs first and then designed the story around them."
