MTV and Microsoft announce Urge

NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- MTV Networks and Microsoft Corp. have announced Urge, a new online service including radio stations, music loads and video streaming.

Urge is designed to expand the existing digital-music market by winning consumers over to subscription models and previously unavailable entertainment options, The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday.

Urge is expected to launch next year as part of a new version of the Microsoft Windows Media Player and also at its Urge.com online home.

MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said among Urge's many features will be free and premium radio stations, subscription and paid download music and streaming video.
