David Steinberg does stand-up sitting down

NEW YORK, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Veteran standup comic David Steinberg has been busy behind the cameras in recent years, but he's moving back in front as host of his own TV talk show.

Steinberg has directed shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Seinfeld," "Newhart" and "Mad About You," the New York Daily News reports.

He makes his debut Wednesday night on his new TV Land show called "Sit Down Comedy with David Steinberg." The show is similar to James Lipton's "Inside the Actor's Studio," with Steinberg conversing with guests in front of an audience comprised of UCLA students, the News said. But the similarity ends there.

"James Lipton overprepares," Steinberg says. Inaugural guest Mike Myers mocks his host's obvious lack of preparation but clearly enjoys himself.

Among other guests booked for coming weeks is comedy great Bob Newhart.
