Young Buck escapes jail for Vibe melee

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Rapper Young Buck Monday pleaded no contest to charges stemming from the melee at last year's Vibe Awards and was sentenced to probation.

David Darnell Brown, 24, better known as G-Unit's Young Buck, pleaded guilty in Los Angeles to assault with a chance to produce bodily injury and in exchange, the charge of assault with a deadly weapon was dropped, MTV.com reported.

He was sentenced to three years probation and 80 hours of community service work.

After the hearing, attorney Scott Leemon told reporters if the case had gone to trial, they had proof Brown was not the person who stabbed Jimmy James Johnson during the awards ceremony.

Johnson was stabbed after he punched Dr. Dre in the face. But Leemon said they were prepared to prove Buck was holding a fork and none of his DNA was found on the knife used to stab Johnson. But, the defense team said, Brown admitted "getting involved in some action" with Johnson and he took "responsibility for that, it was wrong, and he wants to move on now."
