Actor suspected in NYPD killing

NEW YORK, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Film and TV actor Lillo Brancato Jr. was in serious condition Sunday and suspected in the fatal shooting a New York police officer.

Twelve years ago he was starring as Robert De Niro's son Calogero in "A Bronx Tale" and more recently, he portrayed the ill-fated Matt Bevilacqua on HBO's "The Sopranos."

Brancato, 29, and his alleged accomplice, Steven Armento -- the father of one of his ex-girlfriends -- were shot by their alleged victim before he collapsed and died, New York Newsday reported Sunday.

Officer Daniel Enchautegui, 28, reportedly confronted the pair as they were leaving a New York residence where he believed a burglary was in progress, Newsday said.

One of the suspects, it is not clear which at this time, opened fire on the officer. He managed to hit both men several times before collapsing from a chest wound.

Brancato has two prior arrests in his Yonkers, N.Y., hometown -- one for criminal mischief in 1994 and the other in June for heroin possession.
