No more Christopher Robin for 'Pooh'

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Disney's new cartoon series for the 80th anniversary of A.A. Milne's "Winnie the Pooh," replaces Christopher Robin as a core character with a girl.

The 6-year-old red-headed girl has yet to be named, the New York Daily News said. But she will be pushing Christopher Robin out of the action when the cartoon "My Friends Tigger and Pooh," bows on the Disney Channel in 2007.

"The introduction of a new character provides a way for Pooh, Tigger and their friends to tell even more wonderful, enriching stories of the Hundred Acre Wood," Disney spokeswoman Patti McTeague said.

"It's early in the writing stages and, although Christopher Robin is not a core character ... we have not ruled out the possibility of perhaps having him and the new character meet or appear together."
