Brooks mulls 'Young Frank' stage version

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Legendary producer Mel Brooks of "The Producers" fame is working on a Broadway version of his 1974 comedy "Young Frankenstein."

"Me and (Thomas Meehan), who wrote the book with me on the original musical of 'The Producers,' we're working on 'Young Frankenstein' for Broadway," Brooks told Billboard magazine. "Whether it comes out or not, I don't know, but we're having fun working on it. I have six or seven songs written for it."

In the meantime, Brooks is getting ready to launch a remake of "The Producers" on the big screen featuring original Broadway cast members Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick.

Brooks wrote two more songs for the new film and warned moviegoers to make sure they stay for the credits or they will miss some "wacky, heavenly stuff."
