LOS ANGELES, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Director Penelope Spheeris says it looks like her Janis Joplin biopic is finally going to happen.
Spheeris has been developing the "Gospel According to Janis" for the last 15 years and she admits, "It's been a long time coming."
"The most recent draft will be done in the middle of December and we're halfway through it now," she told Zap2it.com. "They say we're going to shoot in spring, but we'll see. It's been a long time coming for me -- 15 years."
She said rocker Alecia "Pink" Moore is on tap to star as the icon who died of a heroin overdose at 27.
Spheeris said putting it all together proved to be complex.
"It's a combination of getting the right script, getting the right actor, getting the rights cleared for her life, getting the music rights cleared, she said.
"I lost a brother and so did Michael and Laura Joplin lose their sister and I know what it's like and you want the family to be on board, you want them to like the piece that you're doing."
