Fuller filed suit claiming Cowell stole the format and general idea from "Pop Idol" for his successful British TV reality talent show, "X Factor."
Cowell has dismissed the claim as "utterly ridiculous."
Further court action was indefinitely postponed Thursday suit after attorneys said they were negotiating a possible settlement with both parties, the BBC said.
At least one published report said Fuller could wind up with a 20 percent cut of "X Factor" profits as part of the deal. Cowell would in return get a 30 percent to 40 percent cut of the profits from "Pop Idol's" U.S. spinoff, "American Idol."
