Ono upset with Chapman interview

NEW YORK, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, reportedly is furious "Dateline NBC" marked the 25th anniversary of Lennon's death with a special on his killer.

"The timing of this is macabre," Ono's spokesman, Elliot Mintz, told Monday's New York Daily News. "She thinks it's outrageous."

Mintz said Mark David Chapman already had been interviewed by numerous journalists including Barbara Walters and Larry King so there was nothing new to learn from him.

"NBC granted an assassin's wish," Mintz said. "It sends out a message to other disturbed people that killing is a way to fame."

An NBC spokesman noted "Dateline" did air Mintz's objections on its program last Friday.

He said Ono and her son, Sean, have no special plans for the Dec. 8 anniversary of Lennon's death.

"Yoko and Sean prefer to remember John on his birthday, Oct. 9, which is also Sean's birthday," Mintz said.
