Randy Parton Theater breaks ground

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Dolly Parton's brother, Randy, is getting ready to become his sister's rival, not as a country music singer, but as an entertainment provider.

Parton broke ground Friday in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., for his Randy Parton Theater in the Carolina Crossroads -- an entertainment district developers hope will someday rival Dollywood, Nashville and Branson, Mo., as a destination for artists and country music lovers alike -- the Roanoke Rapids (N.C.) Daily Herald reports.

The Randy Parton Theater is scheduled to open in April 2007.

Acts will include legends from the Grand Ole Opry -- including Dolly -- as well artists like Aaron Tippin and Travis Tritt, and up-and-coming acts, Parton told the newspaper.

Parton himself performs a variety of music including country, Appalachian and rhythm and blues, and will also grace his own stage from time to time, the newspaper said.
