John Lennon's music gets digital treatment

LONDON, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- John Lennon's entire solo catalog of songs are being converted for digital downloads, but don't look for them at Apple's iTunes Music Store.

Apple Computers and Apple Corp., LTD, the Beatles' record label, are again fighting over the fruity name in court, Billboard.com reported. The label claims with iTunes, the computer maker violated a 1991 settlement that barred it from using the trademark for anything having to do with music.

That is one of the reasons Beatles music has not been released in digital form, Billboard said.

The Apple fight aside, Lennon's widow Yoko Ono said in a news release Tuesday he would have loved the new technology bringing his music to a "new generation of fans."

Capital Records said the retrospective album "Working Class Hero" will be "available at a variety of digital music services" this week with the rest of Lennon's solo works to follow in early December.
