SAN DIEGO, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- An online porn mogul who disappeared and never made good on a $65 million court judgment against him is back in the United States.
Mexican authorities arrested Stephen Michael Cohen and handed him over to U.S. authorities Thursday -- and he is in a San Diego jail, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
Cohen went on the lam and was nowhere to be seen when a judge ordered him to pay $65 million to Gary Kremen -- founder of Match.com -- for hijacking his Internet address sex.com, the Times said. That figure, by the way, now stands at $82 million with interest.
Cohen had forged a letter in 1995 to gain access to Kremen's URL, then turned it into a successful Web site for pornography ads. Kremen had registered the address in 1994, but he was so busy with other projects, he let sex.com lay dormant, the Times said.
When he realized it had been hijacked and turned into a lucrative business for Cohen, Kremen took the matter to court.
In the meantime, Cohen fled the country and took his millions with him. He would occasionally call Kremen to taunt him, the Times said.
The question remains whether Kremen will ever see any of the money owed to him.
