NEW YORK, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- With "Nightline" anchor Ted Koppel stepping down, ABC News Monday announced a new format for the late night show with three co-anchors.

Koppel previously announced his plans to retire Nov. 22 after 42 years with ABC News, 25 of which were spent at the helm of "Nightline."

"Nightline" executive producer James Goldston told a news conference the new format will continue to quench the U.S. public's "thirst for smart news."
