BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Prolific songwriter Baker Knight has died at age 72 in Birmingham, Ala.
Knight died of natural causes Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
Knight wrote nearly 1,000 songs between the 1950s and 1970s, the Times said. His "Lonesome Town" was a hit for Ricky Nelson in 1958 and recorded again by Paul McCartney 1999.
Nelson recorded 21 of Knight's songs and also scored a hit with "I Got a Feeling," the Times said.
Dean Martin scored hits with Knight's "Somewhere There's a Someone" and "That Old Time Feelin'," and Elvis Presley with "The Wonder of You." Other artists embracing Knight included Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Jerry Lee Lewis, Sammy Davis Jr. and Mickey Gilley.
Knight is survived by his actress daughter, Tuesday Knight, a son, a brother and a sister.
