Rabbis criticize new Madonna song

TEL AVIV, Israel, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Israeli rabbis and scholars are angry over Catholic-turned Kabbalah enthusiast Madonna's use of a revered rabbi in one of her new songs.

A song on Madonna's upcoming album, "Confessions on a Dance Floor," is titled "Issac" the English translation of Yitzhak and the first name of a 16th century Jewish mystic buried in Safed, Israel, E! Online said Monday.

"Jewish law forbids the use of the name of the holy rabbi for profit," Rabbi Rafael Cohen told Israel's Maariv newspaper.

"Her act is just simply unacceptable and I can only sympathize for her because of the punishment that she is going to receive from Heaven," the rabbi said. "The Sage Isaac is holy and pure, and immodest people cannot sing about him."

Other orthodox leaders are calling for Madonna -- who took on the name Esther -- to be bounced from the Kabbalah movement, E! said.

It's not the first religious controversy for Madonna, who drew the ire of Catholic leaders with "Like a Prayer" back in the 1980s.
