LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Houston rapper Paul Wall scored a No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200 Wednesday with "The Peoples Champ."
The album sold 176,000 U.S. copies, beating out Switchfoot, Trisha Yearwood, the Pussycat Dolls, Paul McCartney, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley and Charlie Wilson, Nielson SoundScan figures showed.
Wall ended the two-week reign of Kanye West's "Late Registration," which fell to No. 2 on the albums chart. Switchfoot grabbed the No. 3 slot with "Nothing Is Sound" followed by Yearwood's "Jasper Country" in the No. 4 spot.
The Pussycat Dolls were No. 5 with "PCD" while Paul McCartney's "Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard" was No. 6, giving the veteran rocker his 45th Top 10 Billboard 200 album.
Marley's "Welcome to Jamrock" debuted as No. 7, the Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business" was No. 8, Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" was No. 9 and former Gap Band frontman Wilson grabbed a career-best sales week with "Charlie, Last Name Wilson" debuting at No. 10, his highest mark on the albums chart ever.
