TV Land to launch bio spoof

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Actor Paul Reiser is the executive producer for a proposed one-hour weekly spoof of the popular A&E show "Biography" for TV Land.

Harry Shearer has been tapped as host of "I Did Not Know That," a series of "fake stories about real celebrities," Daily Variety reported Thursday.

Reiser's producing partner, Craig Knizek, is also on board and Stephen Brophy of "Average Joe" is writing the pilot.

TV Land Senior Vice President Mitchell Semel told Variety the "Biography" spoof idea came up years ago when he was working with Reiser and Knizek.

"This makes sense for us because it's anchored in TV convention -- appropriate for a classic TV network -- but it also puts us in the original comedy business," Semel said. "The series pokes fun not only at bio show conventions but also of today's obsession with celebrities and celebrity-based entertainment."

TV Land averaged 992,000 primetime viewers this summer, a 29-percent increase from a year ago.
