KISS guitarist joins college board

FOREST GROVE, Ore., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer may "rock and roll all night," but he's making time during the day to sit on the board of an Oregon liberal arts college.

Thayer, who replaced guitarist Ace Frehley as "the Spaceman" in KISS, has been voted to the board of trustees of Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., the Oregonian reports.

Thayer, 44, was unanimously added to the board by the 37 other trustees, the newspaper said.

"I made it clear that I expect to see them all at the next Portland concert," Thayer said. "I told them I'd provide the earplugs."

Thayer will be on campus four times a year for daylong budget meetings and debates.

"It's an opportunity to get involved in the home front and be a little less conventional," Thayer said. "You never know, maybe I'll end up taking some classes."
