Cartoon Net cleans up in Emmys

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- The Cartoon Network won six Emmy Awards for individual achievement in animation, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Wednesday.

Costume designer Wendy Benbrook and costume supervisor Wanda Leavey of Fox's "MADtv" won for best costumes for a variety or music program. Narrator Keith David of PBS's "Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson" was honored as best voice-over performer.

Animator Barbara Wierzchowska won for individual achievement in animation for the "Bear Hugs" segment of HBO's "Classical Baby." Character designer Gordon Hammond won for the 'Shelf Life" episode of Nickelodeon's "Fairly Odd Parents."

Art Director Mike Moon, character designer Craig McCracken and storyboard artist Ed Baker were also honored for "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends."

Background key designer Frederick Gardner won for "The Powerpuff Girls" "West in Piece" episode, and storybook artist Bryan Andrews won for his work on the animated series "Samurai Jack."

Background key designer Justin Thompson won for "Star Wars: Clone Wars Vol. 2," chapters 21-25.

The winners will be feted at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony Sept. 11.
