Metallica to open for Rolling Stones

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. heavy metal icons Metallica have agreed to warm up their San Francisco hometown crowd for British rock icons the Rolling Stones.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich issued a statement Tuesday saying Metallica didn't think twice about coming off its extended break when the Stones came calling, MTV.com reported Wednesday.

"Over the course of our career we've been fortunate enough to share the stage with a select few of the bands we grew up on, admired and respected including AC/DC, Deep Purple, Guns N' Roses and Iron Maiden," Ulrich said. "The only band that we have never played with but have always wanted to is the Rolling Stones."

Ulrich noted the last time Metallica appeared in a opening slot was 1992.

The dynamic duo will rock SBC Park Nov. 13 and Nov. 15. The first show is sold out.
