Pop compilation heads Billboard chart

LOS ANGELES, July 27 (UPI) -- Strong cuts by Gwen Stefani, Coldplay and the Killers gave the 19th "NOW That's What I Call Music!" installment a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart.

It's the seventh No. 1 for the multi-label compilation, Billboard said. Nielsen SoundScan reports 436,000 copies were sold last week, over 300,000 more than the No. 2 album, Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi."

R. Kelly's "TP.3 Reloaded" fell from a two-week reign at No. 1 to No. 3 and Coldplay's "X&Y" held at No. 4 for a second week. Bow Wow's "Wanted" was No. 5 and the Black Eyed Peas' rose to No. 6.

Carly Simon notched her highest-charting album in more than 30 years with "Moonlight Serenade" at No. 7 and gospel act Mary Mary earned a career-best perch, opening at No. 8.

Gorillaz's "Demon Days" and the Foo Fighters' "In Your Honor" rounded out the Top 10 at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.

U.S. album sales slipped 1 percent from the previous week at 10.2 million units, about 10.5 percent off from the same week last year, Billboard said.
