AMMAN, Jordan, July 26 (UPI) -- Latin pop star Ricky Martin was unknowingly drawn into the Israeli-Arab conflict over the ownership of Jerusalem during a recent visit to Jordan.
Martin went to Amman for an Arab youth conference and was posing for pictures with fans when a head scarf was draped over his shoulders reading: "Jerusalem is Ours," the New York Post reported Tuesday.
"I had no idea that the kaffiyeh scarf presented to me contained language referring to Jerusalem, and I apologize to anyone who might think I was endorsing its message," Martin said Monday.
Martin said he went to the conference to help fight the stereotyping of Arabs.
However, the Israeli general consul in New York, Arye Mekel, told the Post, "This incident proves once again that singers should stick to singing, and leave politics to those who really understand it."
