BET to shore up original programming

LOS ANGELES, July 14 (UPI) -- The BET cable network Thursday named writer-director Reginald Hudlin president of entertainment as it looks to shore up its original programming.

The director of "House Party" and "Boomerang" will handle programming duties for the network's entertainment, sports, news and public affairs divisions, Zap2it.com reported.

BET has mainly broadcast syndicated programs along with a few original reality-type series. The network has come under fire for a lack of quality programming for African-Americans, Zap2it.com said.

Hudlin said he is anxious to tackle the challenge.

"I look forward to working with (BET officials) as we guide BET to the next step in its evolution with a wide range of original programming," he said.
