Disneyland to get Hollywood star

HOLLYWOOD, July 13 (UPI) -- Disneyland is poised to become the first corporation to get a star near the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The stars are available to celebrities -- as long as someone coughs up the $15,000 cost.

Johnny Grant, the honorary mayor of Hollywood, told Wednesday's Los Angeles Times the corporate stars are more like "awards of excellence" close to the famous tourist attraction.

"It will be a Walk of Fame-type star, but it will be on private property, not on the sidewalk," he said. "There is (a city) ordinance that you can't put commercial names on the sidewalk ... We want to honor these people, and I came up with this idea."

Grant said companies will have the same restrictions as anyone else seeking a star -- mainly a Hollywood connection.

Once it leaked out Disneyland was getting a star, Grant said he got a phone call asking if General Motors could have one, too.

"I said, 'Get out of here!'" Grant told the Times.
