Magic Johnson Foundation holds gala

LOS ANGELES, July 12 (UPI) -- The Magic Johnson Foundation is honoring Russell Simmons, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Quincy Jones, Tavis Smiley, Star Jones-Reynolds and Muhammad Ali.

The celebrities will be saluted for their efforts toward making a difference in the lives of others and advancing the progress of minorities during the 20th "A Mid Summer Night's Magic," a five day sports and entertainment event that began Tuesday in Los Angeles, AllHipHop.com reported.

Johnson, a former NBA All-Star and vice president of the Los Angeles Lakers, told AllHipHop.com the festival acknowledges business leaders who accomplish significant social objectives and advance higher education.

"Without them, our efforts would not be possible," he said. "These innovative, socially responsible people and corporations contribute to the well-being of society and seek to improve the quality of life for all people."
