NEW YORK, July 9 (UPI) -- "Dean & Me: A Love Story," a memoir written by Jerry Lewis and co-authored by James Kaplan is set to be released to U.S. bookstores in October.
The memoir traces the 50-year relationship of Martin and Lewis -- the comedic duo who soared to popularity in post-World War II America, but whose personal differences created a rift between the stars.
After parting ways, Martin and Lewis went on to great success as solo entertainers. But Lewis said they missed the relationship they once had. Lewis says his former partner was one of the greatest comedic talents of all time.
Lewis had a vaudevillian routine before teamed with Martin, who played the role of straight man, in 1946. They began making feature films in 1949 with releases such as "My Friend Irma" and "At War With The Army." After a string of 16 movies together, the split in 1956. Lewis starred in movies and Martin took his singing act to Las Vegas.
Martin joined the Rat Pack with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop to star in movies such as "Ocean's Eleven."
