After parting ways, Martin and Lewis went on to great success as solo entertainers. But Lewis said they missed the relationship they once had. Lewis says his former partner was one of the greatest comedic talents of all time.

Lewis had a vaudevillian routine before teamed with Martin, who played the role of straight man, in 1946. They began making feature films in 1949 with releases such as "My Friend Irma" and "At War With The Army." After a string of 16 movies together, the split in 1956.
