NYC maid to the stars busted for theft

NEW YORK, June 22 (UPI) -- A Polish-born New York maid has been charged with stealing thousands of dollars of jewelry and clothing from the likes of Robert De Niro and Candice Bergen.

Speaking through a translator, Lucyna Turyk-Wawrynowicz, 35, appeared at her arraignment on charges of grand larceny, forgery, coercion and criminal possession of stolen property in Manhattan Criminal Court Tuesday night.

Wawrynowicz was arrested Monday at her Queens home where police said they found a pair of diamond earrings worth $95,000 from Robert De Niro's wife, as well as a $1,000 pair of shoes and a $500 belt from the De Niro apartment.

Investigators said they recovered another pair of earrings and a $1,000 suede coat taken in 2002 from a victim police refused to identify. That victim alleged when confronted about missing items, the maid threatened to accuse the victim's husband of sexual harassment, the New York Post said.

Among her other clients were "Murphy Brown" star Bergen and actress Isabella Rossellini.
