Brooks, Yearwood get engaged on stage

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., May 26 (UPI) -- Country singer Tricia Yearwood accepted a marriage proposal from Garth Brooks after a bronze statue of Brooks was unveiled in Bakersfield, Calif.

Some 7,000 fans roared their approval Wednesday night at the "legends in Bronze" statue dedication at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace, thebakersfieldchannel.com reported.

In his first appearance on stage since retiring nearly six years ago, Brooks surprised fans by picking up a guitar and performing his hits "Amarillo At Night" and "Friends In Low Places."

He then went down on one knee and proposed to his long-time girlfriend, to which she responded "Yes," prompting cheers as he slipped an engagement ring on her finger.

Brooks has been married twice before and Yearwood has been married three times before.
