SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 16 (UPI) -- U.S. rap superstar 50 Cent has avoided jail time on three Massachusetts assault charges with a pledge to behave for two years.
The charges related to a brawl that broke out last year when 50 Cent -- whose real name is Curtis Jackson -- made a surprise onstage appearance at the Spring Jam event at the Hippodrome in Springfield. After being struck on the head with a water bottle, he and his crew dove into the crowd of 1,400, and punches were thrown.
At his Springfield hearing Friday, Judge Robert Kumor agreed with defense attorneys the punch-up didn't merit jail and accepted the no contest plea deal, E! Online reported.
The singer, who lives in Connecticut, will have a clean record if he manages to remain crime- and drug-free for two years and take anger-management classes. He is also forbidden from carrying a gun in Massachusetts.
