A spokeswoman for the "Signs" star said Joaquin Phoenix checked himself in two weeks ago to an undisclosed facility to kick his booze habit.

Phoenix was "uncomfortable with the way that he was living his life and found the courage to deal with his disease," a publicist said in a statement.

Phoenix is getting early Oscar buzz for his singing and guitar playing while portraying late music legend Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line," a movie due for release in November.
