NEW YORK, April 7 (UPI) -- Cooking-show host Jacques Pepin has been selected to receive the 2005 James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award.
Pepin is best known for series of cooking shows he did for public television, by himself, with his daughter and with Julia Child.
"Jacques Pepin represents the most anyone cold help to become as a culinarian. His contributions to the field are seemingly endless, from his years as working as a chef to his transition as author, teacher, television performer, adviser and mentor," Beard Award Chairman Joe Crea said in a release.
The foundation also said five people would be indicted into the Contessa Premium Foods Who's Who in Food. They are: Joseph Bastianich, co-owner of several New York restaurants; Greg Drescher, an official with the Culinary Institute of America; Carol Field, a food writer; Corby Kummer, an editor at The Atlantic Monthly; and Deborah Madison, a chef and author from New Mexico.
The awards will be given at a May 2 event in New York. The event will include a "Chefs Tribute to Julia Child" reception, for which Pepin is to be the host. Child died last August.
