Neil Simon sells Los Angeles home

LOS ANGELES, March 26 (UPI) -- Broadway playwright Neil Simon has sold the Los Angeles home he's owned for 30 years for close to the $8.5-million asking price.

Real estate sources not involved with the transaction told the Los Angeles Times that the buyer was a Los Angeles physician.

The one-story, six-bedroom, seven bathroom house, was built in 1937 and was renovated about eight years ago. The 6,760-square foot house featured a gym, library, media center, guesthouse, pool and park-like grounds on the two-acre site.

The 77-year-old Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright had undergone a kidney transplant earlier this year, but is scheduled to spend more time in New York City this fall where he is involved in several projects.

His latest play, a stage adaptation of his 1996 memoir, "Rewrites" is being brought to he stage as is a revival of "The Odd Couple," starring Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane.
