MONACO, Monaco, March 22 (UPI) -- A worsening lung infection has forced Prince Rainier III of Monaco into an intensive care unit, the BBC reported Tuesday.
The 81-year-old monarch has ruled Monaco since 1949, but his declining health has resulted in his son and heir apparent, Prince Albert, taking more responsibility for running the principality, famous for its Formula One Grand Prix, low taxes and upscale casinos.

Rainier made headlines with his marriage to Hollywood movie star Grace Kelly in 1956 after meeting her at the Cannes film festival.
