Moby was prolific in making new album

NEW YORK, March 22 (UPI) -- Pop star Moby had a whale of a choice when it came to songs for his new album, "hotel."

The onetime electronic music pioneer wrote 250 songs that were considered for the album and its instrumental companion, "hotel:ambient." But Moby -- born Richard Hall Mellville and, yes, a distant relative of "Moby Dick" author Herman Mellville -- isn't necessarily impressed by that output.

"I was on tour for my last album, '18,' for quite a long time, so by the time it ended I was so happy to be home and in my studio and making music again," Moby explains. "I can write two or three songs a day. If I write two a day, that's 730 songs a year.

"So the fact I only wrote 250 means I've been lazy."

Moby will tour to support "hotel" beginning April 11 in Norfolk, Va.
