Joss Whedon to take on 'Wonder Woman'

LOS ANGELES, March 17 (UPI) -- "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon will write and direct a feature film version of the comic book "Wonder Woman," Daily Variety said Thursday.

Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures have decided to hand the project over to Whedon, years after producers Joel Silver and Leonard Goldberg began to develop it.

Whedon -- who created and executive produced "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" for seven seasons on the WB and UPN -- is currently finishing work on "Serenity," a feature based on his TV series "Firefly." He also created and produced the "Buffy" spin-off series "Angel" and wrote the screenplays for "Toy Story" and "Alien: Resurrection."

The TV series "Wonder Woman," starring Lynda Carter, ran for three seasons on ABC and CBS from 1976-79.
