LOS ANGELES, March 9 (UPI) -- George Lucas will be honored with a new award at this year's ShoWest movie convention in Las Vegas, the Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday.
The paper said Lucas will receive the ShoWest Galactic Achievement Award at the movie industry's largest annual convention next week.
Lucas' sixth and final "Star Wars" movie, "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith," is scheduled to open in theaters May 19.
"This unique award celebrates the enduring popularity of the 'Star Wars' movies and the enormous impact and influence they have had on audiences and popular culture," said Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the ShoWest. "'Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith' may be the final movie of the saga, but the appeal and adventure of 'Star Wars' will live on for decades to come."
