LOS ANGELES, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Members of unions representing U.S. professional actors have ratified a new contract with producers, the unions announced Monday.
The Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists said their members voted overwhelmingly in favor of a new three-year contract, which will take effect July 1.
SAG, AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reached tentative agreement on the deal in January.
"This contract represents a victory for solidarity, strategy and good sense," said AFTRA President John Connolly. "The majority of the negotiating committee kept their eyes on the real prize, which was to keep actors working and keep cameras rolling."
The unions said the deal provides a 9 percent across-the-board pay raise for actors over three years, and the largest ever employer contribution to the unions' health and pension plans.
