Driver 'inconsolable' after replacement

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Actress Minnie Driver was reportedly devastated to learn she has been replaced by Beyonce Knowles to perform during the Academy Awards.

The British actress-turned-singer was said by a source to be "inconsolable" after finding out she will no longer be singing Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Learn to Be Lonely," from "The Phantom of the Opera," the World Entertainment News Network reported Monday.

Driver was considered the obvious choice to perform the song, nominated for Best Original Song, since she sang it in the movie. However, show organizers recently announced Knowles would be singing the tune.

The source said: "Minnie just doesn't have the pulling power or the voice of Beyonce. Minnie is devastated and inconsolable. She'd told everyone that this was to be her big break as a singer."

Knowles is also singing "Look to Your Path" from "Les Choristes," and "Believe" from "The Polar Express."

The awards will be broadcast live from Hollywood Sunday night on ABC.
