Back on Broadway: Lane and Broderick

NEW YORK, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, who helped make Mel Brooks' "The Producers" a major Broadway hit, will team up again for "The Odd Couple."

Plans for a revival of Neil Simon's popular comedy were announced Tuesday.

Producers of the show said it would begin previews Oct. 4 at a theater yet to be announced under the direction of Joe Mantello, whose most recent Broadway show was a revival of Stephen Sondheim's musical, "Assassins." Lane will play the untidy sportswriter Oscar Madison and Broderick will play his fussy roommate, photographer Felix Unger.

The original Broadway production opened in 1965 at the Plymouth Theater with Walter Matthau as Oscar and Art Carney as Felix.

It was made into a movie in 1968 with Mathau and Jack Lemon, followed by a sequel film in 1998 and also spawned two TV series.
