NEW YORK, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Foreign films that ordinarily get little U.S. play are represented in the now-showing fifth annual Film Comment Selects series in New York.
Two Cannes prize winners got the 22-film slate under way Thursday -- the French director Olivier Assayas's "Clean" and the South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook's "Oldboy,"
"Clean," which won the Cannes best actress award last year for Maggie Cheung, is the jumpy story of a tough-talking drug addict trying to regain her young son's trust.
"Oldboy," described by the New York Times as a "feverish, mind-twisting revenge tale adapted from a Japanese comic book," won the Cannes best director prize.
The series includes two films starring the French actress Isabelle Huppert, "La Mere" and "Deux."
