Lynn Anderson arrested in N.M.

TAOS, N.M., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Grammy-winning country singer Lynn Anderson is facing charges of shoplifting and punching a police officer in Taos, N.M.

Police say Anderson, 57, stole a Harry Potter DVD from a supermarket and got into a scrape with the officer outside the store Monday night, the Albuquerque Journal reported Wednesday. She was released on her own recognizance and ordered to appear for arraignment later this week.

Last month Anderson, who lives in Taos, was charged with drunken driving after police found her passed out in her car along a highway near Denton, Texas.

Anderson, best known for her hit "Rose Garden," was the Country Music Association's female vocalist of the year in 1971. She released a bluegrass album last year called "Pure Country," her first album in 12 years.
