Bible ad wins a spot in Rolling Stone

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Rolling Stone magazine has reversed its refusal to run an ad for a new bible, it was reported.

The ad, for Today's New International Version Bible published by Zondervan, Cascade Township, Mich., will run in the February Rolling Stone afterall, the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Press reported.

Ads courting the 8 million-member 18- to 34-year-old market also will run in satire newspaper the Onion and Modern Bride magazine as well as on MTV and America Online.

Rolling Stone initially rejected Zondervan's ad because it's a religious message, prompting sharp criticism from conservative and religious commentators. However, "internal miscommunications" led to the ad's rejection, magazine officials told USA Today. The magazine is part of Wenner Media Inc.

The Rolling Stone controversy actually heightened demand for Today's New International Version Bible, which moved up its publishing date two weeks to Feb. 1.
