Stan Lee, Ringo Starr to collaborate

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Comic book legend Stan Lee and Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will collaborate in an entertainment venture that will cast Starr as a superhero.

Lee's company, POW! Entertainment, and Starr's company, Rocca Bella, will develop animated projects for TV, DVD, publishing and an array of licensing and merchandising lines. Starr will be the central character, depicted as an "evil-battling, earth-saving (although reluctant) superhero with a great sense of rhythm."

Plans call for production on the animated series to begin this year, with a DVD roll-out envisioned for the first quarter of 2006.

Lee is best known for such classic comic book characters as Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and The Hulk.

"Ringo is beloved worldwide for his commitment to people and his singular wit," said Lee. "Our Ringo Superhero character will combine these qualities, along with Ringo's secret powers which people generally didn't know about because he has kept them secret until now."
