Man, Rimes feels like a woman

NASHVILLE, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Once a 13-year-old upstart with an adult's voice, country singer LeAnn Rimes says she's all grown up and has titled her new album, "This Woman."

"This album is very empowering," said Rimes, 22, who first hit the charts in 1996 with "Blue" and became the first country performer to win a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

"That whole feeling of being a woman, that dynamic, changes everything. That's why the new record is titled 'This Woman.' It explains to everyone exactly where I'm at and who I am at this point in my life."

Rimes, who co-wrote three songs for "This Woman," said she "really tried to mesh the rock and country thing this time. Janis Joplin is a huge influence on a lot of the things I do now."

Before touring to promote "This Woman," Rimes will host the new season of the USA Network's "Nashville Star," a country counterpart to "American Idol."
