Cosby speaks to packed house in Detroit

DETROIT, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Bill Cosby told a standing-room-only audience in Detroit this week that African-Americans must take responsibility for solving their own problems.

The Detroit Free Press reports that 1,800 people, most of them black, packed an auditorium at Wayne County Community College. They listened to Cosby, actor and producer Robert Townsend and TV judge Gloria Hatchett.

"Don't be casual about death and destruction," Cosby said. "I don't care whose child it is, a drug dealer is a murderer."

Cosby has been visiting cities across the country with a message that includes better parenting and taking back urban neighborhoods. He said that families can help prevent teen pregnancies and dropping out of high school.

"You are the parent," Cosby said. "You find out who your child is hanging with."
