LANSING, Mich., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A federal appeals court in Lansing, Mich., has sided with rock/rapper Kid Rock and threw out a 2001 suit brought by a Detroit promoter.
A three-judge panel ruled unanimously that Alvin Williams and Top Dog Publishing waited too long to try to hold Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, to a 1989 partnership agreement, the Detroit News reported.
Judges agreed Kid Rock's December 1990 letter saying he did not intend to work with Williams started the three-year statute of limitations for copyright infringement. Williams filed his suit in 2001.
Kid Rock said none of the songs he's written are owned by the Detroit promoter or his companies. The 33-year-old singer/songwriter's first album, "Devil Without a Cause," sold 10 million copies.
