Prof believes he found Twain essay

WACO, Texas, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A professor at Baylor University in Texas has found what he believes is a previously unknown section of an essay by Mark Twain.

Joe Fulton, an associate professor in American literature, said the six-page manuscript appears to be the conclusion of "Corn-Pone Opinions," published after Twain's death, the Cox News Service reported Sunday.

Fulton said he found the manuscript during a recent visit to the Mark Twain Papers and Project at the University of California, Berkeley. As he was finishing research on a forthcoming book about Twain and theology, he found a small bundle of papers in a dusty drawer.

Fulton said as he read through the manuscript, "Moral and Intellectual Man," it seemed similar to the theme of Corn-Pone Opinions, written in 1903, seven years before Twain's death.
